What You Should Know and Must Know

Newfoundland’s geography, climate and island location entails factors that travelers should consider in planning your vacation. Critically important are personal health and related issues.

Climate—Newfoundland in general: The warm/dry weather arrives later in Newfoundland than in mainland Canada. June (spring) through September (Fall) is typically the preferred time for outdoor activities. July and August are ideal with temperatures permitting shorts and t-shirts. Even then, ocean breezes are generally cool. Fog is common along coastlines, especially in the spring.

Ground transportation: Island-mainland ground transportation depends on two major ferry services that connect Newfoundland and Nova Scotia: Port aux Basque, NL/North Sydney, NS (3 hours by road to Marble Inn Resort); and Argentia, NL/North Sydney, NS (8 hours by road to Marble in Resort). For ferry schedules and bookings contact Marine Atlantic.

Air Transportation: Deer Lake Regional Airport (20 minutes drive to Marble Inn Resort) and St. John’s International Airport (8 hours drive to Marble Inn Resort) are daily serviced by international, national and regional airlines.

HEALTH AND MEDICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Dietary Requirements

Please advise at time of bookings and/or well in advance of arrival of any food preferences or dietary concerns, especially allergies and sensitivities. Newfoundland is largely rural and food/dietary options may be limited; alternatives, if available, can be expensive.

Medications

Travelers with severe allergies should prepare for possible exposure and bring with them necessary personal medications for food or other known allergies and be capable of self‑administering medications.

Medical Insurance

Event/tour participants are responsible for arranging their own travel and medical insurance.
